Pets are terrible outside of gimmicks.
Incendiary Arrows
Pin Down
Distracting Shot
Savage Shot
Mending Touch
Natural Stride
Apply Poison
Troll Unguent
11+1 Wilderness Survival
11+1+1 Expertise
8+1 Marksmanship
Or swap it to 9+1 in Marks and Wildy with 14 in Exp and use Crippling Shot / Hunter's Shot, Melandru's Shot / Whatever etc...

Melandru's Shot/crip shot

Savage Shot
Sloth Hunter's Shot
Natural Stride
Mending Touch
Troll Unguent
Apply Poison
12+2 expertese 10+1+1 marks 8+1 wild.

For AB you say....
Offering Of Blood
Vampiric Touch
Vampiric Bite
Throw Dirt
Whirling Defence
Dodge
Lightning Reflexes
Blood Renewal
Seriously though
Melandru's Shot
Distracting Shot
Savage Shot
Apply Poison
Natural Stride
Troll Ungent
Antidote Signet
Remove Hex
Is what I use the odd time I actually go into AB

From my perspective the most often run Ranger builds follow a very similar template. Something like:
Distracting Shot
Savage Shot
*Elite*
Apply Poison
Natural Stride
Mending Touch
Troll Ungent
Rez
Elite varies based on game play and team build. Elites I'd suggest currently are:
Magebane
Melandru's shot (or Cripple shot)
Burning Arrow (or Incendiary Arrows)
The stats would vary slightly based on the cost of the elite where expertise should be from 12 to 14 (that's also subjective to use of the build and format too). Break points on skills would determine the point spread for the balance of Mark & Wild.
Hope this helps!

@OP: Notice a trend?
Forget showing off the e-peen turkey in PvP. Do what a ranger does best: interrupt the backline, spread conditions, and have great survivability. Having a pet makes you a liability, as every time the retard dies, you lose your bar, and you spend your time managing another char, instead of performing your job the best you can.

For AB running the Merciless Beastmaster works quite well. Or the R/P Packhunter with heal as one. However, I will agree the other builds above do work better.

I run only BA or Cripshot in AB with the general ranger template of dshot, savage, elite, nstride, mtouch, trolls, last slot is hunter's(cripshot) pindown (BA).
Cripshot is great if you get a solid team together, with things like a hammer and pbaoe eles you know a bit of coordination. Also is great for these stupid crit defense sins to maybe get their enchant down.
BA is great with poor teams (single profession players, mending wars, etc). It provides higher overall dmg (crippling is strong in an arena based on movement I know) and I think works better if you split off.

For AB i really like bringing Concussion Shot, because eles seem to love trying to get Meteor of 3 times in a row.

no use. even when the sin has crit defense on and is crippled, at least over 9000 melees will stand right next to it swinging away. most non-melees will probably continue their habit of not kiting as well.

Cripshot is great in AB coz it provides movement control. BA does damage. BHA is too slow for AB. Melandru's is overall pretty decent nowadays. Incendiary is good for capping, but imo not that big a deal. Escape Scythe etc still fun.
Surprised noone suggested it yet, but PvXwiki is a great place to get starter builds.

AB? Hmm... sadly, it's the same select few builds - BA/Cripshot/Magebane/Melandru's. Which are all basically the same template just a different elite for different types of utility. And the IA build, which i dislike.

Melshot is awesome. When I AB on my Ranger, I always run this:
Melandrus' Shot
Bull's Strike
Distracting Shot
Savage Shot
Apply Poison
Natural Stride
Troll Unguent
Antidote Signet
I have fun D-Shotting skills through quarterupting.

Is it that useful or could it be swapped out if you're not comfortable with melee range?

Think about it, I have Bull's Strike AND Distracting Shot! Anyone declaring that is not epic is terrible!
Oh, and if you really want swap it out for whatever, and if not using secondary Antidote for MTouch.

Fixed lol
Bull's Strike is a 'must-learn' anyway
